The NFL has fined Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase $31,599 for unsportsmanlike conduct during the Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Frustrated after a tackle in a close game, Chase directed “abusive” language at referee Alex Kemp, who penalized him for it.
Chase had sought a flag for a hip-drop tackle on Trent McDuffie, who was not penalized or fined, despite the league banning that type of tackle for the 2024 season. Other players, like those from the Houston Texans, have also voiced concerns about similar illegal tackles affecting their teammates.Chase’s response was more intense than Mixon’s, leading the league to impose a significant fine on him for his behavior during the game. Most fines issued over the weekend fell between $5,000 and $15,000. Meanwhile, Chase and the 0-2 Bengals are scheduled to face the Washington Commanders on Monday night.
