BREAKING: Parkers To Commits $16 million Former Tennessee Player.

The Green Bay Packers have reached out to former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who remains the top free agent quarterback available as the 2024 regular season begins. In July, Tannehill mentioned he was seeking the “right situation” before joining a team for the season.

With Jordan Love suffering an MCL injury in the season opener, the Packers will start Malik Willis, whom they acquired before the roster cutdown deadline, according to FOX’s Jay Glazer. However, beyond Week 2, the Packers’ plans remain uncertain.

The Packers have $16 million in cap space for the 2024 season, which ranks 13th in the NFL, according to Spotrac. Although fitting Tannehill into this cap space may be challenging, it is potentially manageable. It’s important to note that the cap also needs to cover players on injured reserve, so the available space must account for the entire 53-man roster, practice squad, and injured reserve throughout the season.

If the Packers want to free up additional cap space, they may need to renegotiate the contracts of defensive tackle Kenny Clark or cornerback Jaire Alexander. Currently, they are the only players on the roster with salaries exceeding $3.5 million. Clark, who signed a three-year extension before the season, has a $29 million salary for 2024, with $10.05 million of that as salary which could be converted into a signing bonus and spread out over up to five years. Alexander’s current salary is $6.65 million, and he will earn a total of $15.3 million this season, including roster bonuses.Breaking down Ryan Tannehill's future with the Titans - Sports IllustratedThe main considerations now are whether Tannehill would agree to join the Packers and whether adding him would be beneficial. If Tannehill isn’t available until Week 3 and Jordan Love returns to the starting role in Week 4, the financial and strategic value of signing Tannehill comes into question. Would Tannehill be willing to play just one game for the Packers? Would he prefer to become a free agent after this stint, or would he be open to backing up Willis? What impact would this have on Willis’s role?

Tannehill, who has a career record of 81-70 as a starting quarterback, has thrown 216 touchdown passes and 115 interceptions, with a passer rating of 91.2 over his 11 NFL seasons. His decision will be important for the Packers, especially if there is unfavorable news about Love’s MCL injury.
