Huge Boost Top Player Lands Commitment With Chicago Bears. Eager To Get Started.

Not too long ago, Chicago Bears fans were eagerly hoping for then-general manager Ryan Pace to extend wide receiver Allen Robinson’s contract.

Robinson played four seasons with the Bears from 2018 to 2021, but it was his standout performances in 2019 and 2020 that made him a central part of the team’s offense. In 2019, Robinson accumulated 1,147 receiving yards on 98 catches with 7 touchdowns. The following year, he surpassed 100 receptions with 102 catches for 1,250 yards.

After those impressive seasons, Bears fans were vocally supporting a contract extension for Robinson. Ironically, one of the proposed contract models for Robinson was a 4-year extension similar to the one Keenan Allen signed with the Los Angeles Chargers before the 2020 season, which was worth just over $80 million. Interestingly, Allen’s contract, which he refused to restructure earlier this offseason, led to his trade to the Bears.

Since his peak, Robinson’s performance has declined. In the 2021 season, he became a minor part of the Bears’ offense and has since moved between the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite reuniting with Mitch Trubisky with the Steelers last season, Robinson only had 34 receptions for 280 yards and no touchdowns.

Robinson’s decline continued this offseason when he signed with the New York Giants. However, after failing to make their 53-man roster, he had to join the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.

It’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can change in the NFL. Allen Robinson has swiftly become a minor player in the league, while the Bears, heading into the 2024 season, boast one of the most formidable wide receiver groups in the NFL, featuring Allen, DJ Moore, and rookie Rome Odunze.
