Just In: 8-Time MVP Opens New PBA Season As Player Of The Week

June Mar Fajardo is continuing his impressive form from his recent MVP season, leading San Miguel Beer to a strong start in the PBA Governors’ Cup. After the first week of the season-opening conference, Fajardo has guided the Beermen to two victories in their group stage games, earning him the distinction of the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week.

Other standout players who were considered for the weekly accolade included NLEX’s Robert Bolick, TNT’s Rey Nambatac, Calvin Oftana, and Poy Erram, as well as Rain or Shine rookies Felix Lemetti and Caelan Tiongson.

This marks the 13th time that Fajardo has received the Press Corps recognition in his 12-year career. “It’s a new conference and a new season, but the goal remains the same: to reach the Finals and hopefully win a championship,” said Fajardo, who is eager to lead San Miguel back to the top after falling to Meralco in the previous Philippine Cup Finals.

During the period from August 18 to 25, Fajardo delivered standout numbers, averaging 25.0 points on 71-percent shooting, along with 17.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. Four days later, in a game against Blackwater, Fajardo recorded 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Although he played more of a secondary role with import Jordan Adams scoring 50 points, San Miguel managed to overcome a first-half deficit and secured a 128-108 win.
