Breaking: 6’8 345 OT From Cedar Rapids, Rejects Georgia And USC Signs With Longhorns.

The Texas Longhorns are expanding their roster of big players with the addition of Nick Brooks, an offensive tackle from Grayson, Georgia, who committed on Friday.

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood is continuing to build one of the nation’s top offensive line units, and the addition of Nick Brooks is a significant boost. Standing 6’7″ and weighing 345 pounds, Brooks offers both ideal size and considerable potential. Ranked No. 180 overall and No. 14 among tackles by the 247Sports Composite, Brooks attracted attention from across the country, receiving 32 scholarship offers from major conferences. Initially committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes as a junior, he reopened his recruitment less than two months later, eventually narrowing his choices to USC, Georgia, and Texas, visiting each during the summer.

The Longhorns capitalized on having the final visit and successfully persuaded him to choose Texas over his home-state team.

Despite his promising attributes, Brooks may need more time to develop due to his size and the fact that he’s attended four different schools in as many years—playing in Iowa, Georgia, and then back to Iowa before returning to Georgia for his senior year. Texas has already seen success with similarly sized players like Connor Stroh and Cam Williams, which bodes well for Brooks’ future.Nick Brooks, Grayson, Offensive TackleBrooks fits the profile of the large linemen that Kyle Flood favors for his position group. At 6’7″ and 345 pounds, he matches the size metrics of players like Cameron Williams, though he may not possess the same level of athleticism. However, his size presents significant challenges for opposing defensive linemen. As a run blocker, Brooks demonstrates solid play strength and can move defenders off the line of scrimmage effectively.

He can dominate with his size and strength, though there are times when his footwork may falter while maintaining and finishing blocks. He consistently finishes blocks on the ground and shows good anticipation of defenders’ movements after the snap. Brooks also has the coordination to function as a pulling lineman. However, his pass-blocking abilities have not been showcased in his senior season tape, leaving that aspect somewhat uncertain.
