Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball last appeared in an NBA game on January 14, 2022. Now, over two years later, the 26-year-old seems to be nearing a return to the NBA for the 2024-’25 season.
Ball’s career has been hampered by injuries in recent years. During his first season with the Bulls, he only participated in 35 games, from October 20, 2021, to January 14, 2022. Since leaving the court after a loss to the Golden State Warriors at the United Center, he has not played in any games.
Will Lonzo Ball make a comeback this year? He initially had arthroscopic debridement before the 2022-’23 season, with hopes that it would resolve his ongoing knee issues. However, the Chicago Bulls eventually ruled him out for the rest of the season due to recurring discomfort in the repaired knee. Subsequently, he had a cartilage transplant in his left knee, which contributed to him missing the entire 2023-’24 NBA season. On a positive note, the Bulls’ medical team cleared Ball to participate in five-on-five scrimmages starting in January. This significant development has increased optimism about his potential return to the NBA.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, Ball shared that his recovery is progressing smoothly and he feels prepared for the 2024-’25 NBA season. He hinted that he might return to the court as soon as September. With the Bulls’ training camp starting in a few weeks, updates on his return are expected soon. Provided he doesn’t face any setbacks, especially considering his knee issues, Ball is likely to play a significant role in the Bulls’ lineup next season.
