Newcastle want to sign “amazing” title-winner who has same agent as Barnes

Newcastle want to sign a “amazing” championship winner who has the same agency as Barnes.

The Magpies are still looking for defensive reinforcements.

With a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly allegedly approaching completion, Newcastle United are reportedly looking for additional defensive reinforcement during the summer transfer window.

Newcastle Transfer News
The Magpies appear to have seized the opportunity presented by Kelly’s Bournemouth contract expiration to secure a free transfer for the versatile defender. He will arrive to give immediate coverage for Eddie Howe’s backline, which is already without Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman for lengthy periods of time ahead of the start of next season.

With cover undoubtedly required for both Lascelles and Botman, Kelly is unlikely to be the last defender to leave St James’ Park this summer, with Dean Huijsen also linked

The original intention appeared to be to land a free deal for Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo at the conclusion of his current contract, similar to the Kelly deal, but Chelsea has now allegedly stepped in to turn the defender’s head. The Magpies have moved their emphasis to the Netherlands.

According to Dutch publication AD, Newcastle are interested in signing Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida this summer. The right-back, who can also play as a centre-back and defensive midfielder, has piqued Liverpool’s attention as well as Newcastle’s, and he may make a choice in the coming months.

Newcastle will aim to negate Arne Slot’s Feyenoord edge against Liverpool by using the fact that Geertruida is represented by the same agency as Harvey Barnes, whom the Magpies bought only last summer. The Feyenoord player, who is still only 23, has the potential to remedy Newcastle’s defensive depth issue.

“Amazing” Geertruida can soften Botman’s punch
While he might eventually succeed Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park, Geertruida’s first priority at Newcastle may be to replace the injured Botman in Howe’s side. Without the Dutchman, Newcastle face a poor start to the Premier League season, making the search for a short-term substitute who can also serve a long-term purpose critical this summer.

It might even be claimed that when Botman returns from injury, Geertruida will present Howe with a difficult selection decision. However, as the Magpies attempt to make an immediate return to European qualifying next season, this competition should only be seen positively.

Unsurprisingly, Geertruida has received plenty of acclaim during his time at Feyenoord, with Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig hailing the defender as “amazing” on X.
