Hull City goalkeeper lifts lid on campaign after making Tigers return

The highly-rated young goalkeeper has returned to City after spending the season on loan at Blundell Park. Goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright reflects on the challenging final month of the season, during which he anxiously watched to see if Grimsby Town could secure survival in League Two. “It was tough towards the end due to my injury, but overall, the loan experience was fantastic,” he shared with City’s website.

“I knew I needed to regain fitness and play matches wherever possible, which happened to be at Grimsby. It was a significant learning experience, working under two different managers with varying styles of play. Despite our position near the bottom of the table, we fought hard for results.

“I’m grateful for the support from the fans who voted for me and honored to have won three awards. It was unexpected, and both my family and I were proud.”

Cartwright, on loan from Hull City, initially struggled for game time at Blundell Park until David Artell’s arrival, after which he became a regular until an injury sidelined him for the last six games. Despite this setback, Cartwright’s performances contributed to the Mariners securing their League Two status, earning him recognition from the club.

Following Paul Hurst’s departure in October, Artell played a pivotal role in Cartwright’s development, alongside former City academy coach Steve Croudson.

“Both managers were supportive,” Cartwright noted. “Hurst encouraged me to persevere, and Artell expressed trust in me, sticking by me through thick and thin. Steve also played a crucial role, providing honest feedback and fostering a strong working relationship.”

Cartwright emphasized the mental preparation required for consistent performances in a demanding league, particularly when battling relegation.
