Despite Curry’s greatness, former MVP and TNT analyst Charles Barkley expressed his preference for former Detroit Pistons star Isiah Thomas. Barkley lauded Thomas as the best little player before Curry’s era and admitted he would choose Thomas over Curry in a hypothetical scenario, citing Thomas’ exceptional career achievements and impact.
Isiah Thomas, over his 13-year NBA tenure, amassed an impressive résumé, including two NBA championships, a Finals MVP award, 12 All-Star appearances, five All-NBA selections, and a stint as assists leader. His 2020 induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame further cements his legendary status.
In contrast to Barkley’s sentiments, Thomas himself has weighed in on Curry’s role, asserting that Draymond Green, not Curry, is the true point guard for the Golden State Warriors. Thomas emphasized Curry’s scoring prowess and his emulation of shooting specialists like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller.
While Thomas remains revered for his playmaking and leadership, Curry’s accomplishments and talents arguably eclipse his own. However, comparing players from different eras is challenging, and Barkley’s staunch preference for Thomas reflects a bold opinion shaped by personal experiences.
