The renowned Argentine, wearing the No. 10 jersey, showcased his prowess with six goals and four assists, totaling to 10 goal contributions, throughout April, despite only featuring in four matches. His remarkable offensive contributions propelled the Herons to a record of 3 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, securing them the top spot in the Supporters’ Shield race. Miami leads MLS in points per game (1.91), goals scored (26), and goal differential (+10). Messi played a crucial role in 10 out of Miami’s 12 goals in April, including crucial game-winning strikes against Nashville SC and the New England Revolution. Moreover, he made history by becoming the first player in the league to achieve multiple goal contributions in five consecutive games. With a total of 16 goal contributions (9 goals and 7 assists) in his first seven games of the 2024 season, Messi sets a new record, surpassing previous holders Thierry Henry and Carlos Vela.

This marks Messi’s second Player of the Month award for Miami in 2024, with his former FC Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez claiming the honor for February/March. Over his illustrious career, Messi has now accumulated a total of 10 Player of the Month awards, with eight earned during his time with Barcelona and one with Paris Saint-Germain, in addition to his latest recognition. Messi and his Miami team are set to face the New York Red Bulls in a highly anticipated matchup this Saturday at home. The MLS Player of the Month is determined through a voting process by a select panel of national media members coordinated by MLS Communications.
