Celtic player out for the season with injury after Premiership club open talks to sign ‘quality’ Hoops figure

Celtic midfielder Kwon will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a muscle injury he sustained. The Hoops invested approximately £1m to acquire the South Korean talent last summer from Busan IPark, securing him on a five-year contract.Hyeokkyu Kwon | Celtic FC Player Profile

Although he struggled to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers in the first half of the season, Kwon has showcased his abilities during the latter part of the campaign while on loan at Paisley. Stephen Robinson has provided him with significant playing time in the St Mirren midfield, contributing to the team’s push for European qualification. However, ahead of Sunday’s defeat to Rangers, the St Mirren manager confirmed that Kwon would be unavailable for the remaining league matches due to a hamstring injury.

This development follows Robinson’s disclosure in February regarding ongoing discussions to retain the services of the Celtic loanee for another season at Paisley. Expressing a strong desire to keep Kwon, Robinson stated, “We’re speaking to Celtic about it, perhaps keeping him for another season with ourselves.” He emphasized the importance of integrating Kwon into Scottish football, acclimating him to aspects such as the physicality and tactical nuances of the game. Despite the potential challenges, Robinson underscored Kwon’s positive impact on the team and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Celtic, albeit acknowledging that the process might take time.
