Report: Steelers Were Interested in Deebo Samuel Trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly explored the possibility of acquiring San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel through a trade during the 2024 NFL Draft, as indicated by reports from the San Francisco Chronicle’s Mike Silver. However, it appears that the Steelers were unwilling to meet the 49ers’ asking price for Samuel, according to Silver’s tweet.Cooper Neill/Getty Images.

While the 49ers were reportedly more inclined to trade Samuel rather than Brandon Aiyuk once the draft commenced, they did not find a willing trade partner in the first two rounds. Speculation intensified around a potential trade, especially after the Steelers selected Ricky Pearsall in the first round, suggesting that they were actively engaged in discussions to acquire a seasoned wide receiver like Samuel.

Throughout the offseason, the Steelers have shown interest in bolstering their wide receiver corps, with Aiyuk previously being linked to them on multiple occasions. However, with Samuel emerging as an option, their focus shifted. Despite their efforts, no deal materialized.

Nevertheless, the possibility of the Steelers adding a veteran wide receiver remains open, even if it doesn’t happen during the NFL Draft. They might explore options closer to OTAs or training camp if they continue to pursue this avenue.
