BREAKING NEWS : $4.5 million lawsuit filed by a former Ravens player against the team

In order to free up salary space this offseason, the Baltimore Ravens made a few noteworthy transactions.

Morgan Moses was traded away. Odell Beckham Jr.’s contract was canceled.

Tyus Bowser was also released by the Ravens.
They will not be saving as much cap room on one of those players as they had anticipated, it turns out.

Bowser has filed a grievance against the Ravens, according to Brian McDonald of Russell Street Report, since he was not paid for the 2023 season following his placement on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Baltimore’s Implications
McDonald claims that the grievance will cause their $1.8 million cap space for 2024 to be reduced. He anticipates that the issue will not be resolved until 2025.

This implies that the cut will be in effect for the duration of the upcoming season.
They would be credited for their wage cap in 2025 if they were to win the case. They would have to pay an additional $2.7 million if they lost.

Tyus Bowser Files $4.5 Million Grievance Against Baltimore Ravens

While the $1.8 million isn’t a bad contract, it’s also not optimal for the Ravens organization, which still needs to add players to their roster.

The Ravens were busy last offseason beginning with April.

Early in April, they approved on their agreement with Beckham.

It was early May that they picked up Rock Ya-Sin.

Melvin Gordon was added by the Ravens in July after Laquon Treadwell was added in June.

It will be more challenging for them to implement the same plan as last year if they lose cap room now.

According to Spotrac, they are now little over $9 million under the limit for the 2024 season.

Once they determine which spots they still need to fill, they should still be in the game after the draft, but it would be preferable if they had all of their anticipated cap space available to make the final roster additions.

Run With the Ravens, Bowser
Since being picked in the second round of the 2017 draft, Bowser has only ever played for the Ravens.

It was some time before that choice appeared to be profitable.

Though he played in all but one of the Ravens’ first three seasons, he immediately established himself as a member of the defense rotation, he didn’t start until the fourth season.

In just 80 tackles and 10.5 sacks for the course of his rookie deal, Bowser finished fourth overall.

Nevertheless, the Ravens made the decision to sign him to a new contract. They agreed to a $22 million, four-year deal with him.

It seemed like a wise choice at first. In the first year of the contract, Bowser enjoyed his best-ever season.

In 2021, he started all 17 of the Ravens’ games, totaling 59 tackles, including 7 sacks, and forcing two turnovers.

Then, in 2022, injuries occurred. Due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, he began the season on the PUP list and was only able to play in nine games. He had just 13 tackles and two sacks in his nine games.

After that, he sustained a knee injury that prevented him from playing in 2023.

He was released by the Ravens at the end of his contract to free approximately $5.5 million in cap space.

It appears that Bowser and the Ravens’ journey is far from over despite that release.
