Rangers find themselves in a precarious position regarding their Scottish Premiership title aspirations, as the fate of the league now rests with their rivals, Celtic. This situation might prompt Rangers to make some tough decisions this summer, potentially leading to the departure of a particular defender.
With several players poised to leave Ibrox at the end of their contracts, including Leon Balogun, Borna Barisic, Jon McLaughlin, and Ryan Jack, Rangers are facing a significant squad overhaul. However, negotiations for a new contract with John Lundstram are ongoing, offering a glimmer of stability amidst the impending departures. 
Following these exits, Rangers could have the opportunity to strengthen their squad, with players like Fabio Silva and Oscar Cortes already linked with permanent moves. Additionally, there’s speculation about a potential acquisition of Eduard Spertsyan, bolstering Philippe Clement’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
While incoming attacking talent may be on the horizon, Rangers could offset these expenses by selling players who have struggled to secure a place in Clement’s lineup. Among them, Ben Davies, the former Liverpool defender, has been sidelined and largely forgotten. Journalist Chris Jack suggests that Davies is likely to be among those offloaded in the summer, as he has failed to impress the manager and is unlikely to feature in future plans.
Davies’ stint at Rangers has been disappointing, mirroring his struggles at Liverpool following a surprise move from Preston North End. Despite being in his prime years at 28, Davies has failed to make a significant impact and may need to seek opportunities elsewhere once again.
However, Davies’ reported high salary could pose a hurdle for potential suitors, making his departure from Rangers potentially complicated. As the transfer window approaches, Clement appears poised to make pragmatic and ruthless decisions to shape his squad for the challenges ahead.
