According to a column by Vic Tafur in The Athletic, the Raiders indeed aim to make such a move. Despite their fourth-round draft pick from last year, who started 10 games and showed promise, the team’s foremost priority remains acquiring a quarterback. LSU’s Jayden Daniels appears to be their preferred choice, given his past connection with head coach Antonio Pierce. However, time is ticking as the draft approaches, leaving little room for the Raiders to execute a trade.
On the other hand, ESPN’s Jordan Reid suggests that the Raiders may opt for other positions, such as offensive line or cornerback, at the 13th overall pick. If they decide to stay put, selecting a quarterback might be a stretch depending on the available talent. Considering their longstanding history of unsuccessful high-round quarterback picks, the Raiders might prioritize addressing other positional needs rather than reaching for a quarterback.
However, the team’s prolonged playoff drought and the undeniable importance of a capable quarterback in a competitive AFC landscape necessitate a bold move at some point. While reluctance stemming from past draft failures is understandable, the Raiders ultimately need to take a calculated risk to secure a promising quarterback talent, especially considering their aspirations for postseason success in a tough conference.
