As the 2023-24 NBA regular season nears its end, teams across the league are wrapping up their schedules, either gearing up for the Play-In Tournament, playoffs, or concluding their campaigns altogether.
Among the contenders eyeing a strong postseason showing are the Boston Celtics, who have commanded the court throughout the season following significant offseason acquisitions of seasoned players Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. Boston’s consistent dominance has secured them the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings, fueling speculation that they could be the team to beat, possibly even challenging the reigning NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets, in the Finals.
Despite the Celtics’ impressive performance, not everyone is convinced of their prowess. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, speaking on “The Big Podcast with Shaq” via NBACentral, dismissed the hype surrounding the Celtics, labeling them as the most overrated team in the league. O’Neal emphasized the need for Boston to prove themselves, citing his extensive experience in the league where many strong regular-season teams fell short in the postseason. Additionally, O’Neal pointed out that the Eastern Conference competition has been relatively weak, further questioning the Celtics’ true standing, especially with their main rival, the Milwaukee Bucks, facing setbacks due to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury.
