Reading FC release statement in response to point deduction

Reading FC acknowledges that Mr. Dai is actively pursuing the sale of the club amid negotiations with multiple interested parties in response to the recent points deduction imposed by the EFL.

The Royals have fallen to 20th place in League One following a two-point deduction due to issues with HMRC. Additionally, two more points have been suspended until the end of the season, contingent upon Dai Yongge’s compliance with future payments.

With 11 matches left in the season, Ruben Selles’ team now sits just two points above the relegation zone.

In light of the EFL’s decision, the club issued a statement, confirming the immediate two-point penalty for persistent late payments to HMRC in 2023. The statement further elaborated on the suspended penalty and fines imposed on Mr. Dai for non-compliance.

Reading FC’s League One total will be affected by the points deduction, effective immediately. Moreover, Mr. Dai faces fines and additional penalties if outstanding amounts are not settled within specified timeframes.

The club reiterates Mr. Dai’s active efforts to sell the club, with negotiations ongoing with potential buyers.

Reading is scheduled to face bottom-club Carlisle United on Saturday, with a significant contingent of over 1,300 traveling fans expected to support the team.
