Rotherham United manager Leam Richardson attributed his team’s inability to maintain their lead against Queens Park Rangers to fatigue.
The Millers suffered a 4-3 defeat against Ipswich Town earlier in the week, marking their sixth consecutive loss and extending their winless streak to 10 matches. Despite initially taking the lead against QPR, Rotherham ultimately succumbed to a defeat as the hosts scored through Paul Smyth and Chris Willock. Richardson remarked on their recurring issue of taking the lead but failing to maintain it, ultimately losing by a narrow margin.
“Our squad is limited in size, and it seems like fatigue caught up with us, especially after traveling to Ipswich on Tuesday night and then back here yesterday.”
“In the Championship, if you’re not fully focused and your fitness levels aren’t top-notch, it can catch up with you.”
“Our players gave their all on Tuesday night, and it’s been a recurring theme during my time here. The effort and performance levels are there, but we need to fine-tune our approach to turn draws into wins and losses into draws. I inherited a situation I was aware of, and I’ve been focusing on instilling positive habits. Hard work is crucial, along with addressing specific areas for improvement, as we strive to progress as a football club.”
