Jaden Springer made his debut for the Boston Celtics on February 22 against the Chicago Bulls. Despite his brief debut with the team, having been acquired by the Celtics just two weeks earlier, he has already noticed a difference between them and his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

Before the Celtics faced off against the Bulls, Springer elaborated on how the Celtics’ approach to basketball varies from that of the Sixers.

“I feel like there’s more read and react,” remarked Springer, as reported by CLNS Media Boston Sports Network’s YouTube Channel. “You’re going out there playing based on each other, playing off your teammates. So you’re just reading what everybody else is doing. It’s not really a set; ‘we have to do this, we have to do that.’ So just going out there and hooping and playing basketball.”

Reflecting on his matchups against basketball luminaries like Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry before his trade from the Sixers, Springer expressed, “I mean, yeah, being able to play against those guys, that was pretty cool. Being able to have that matchup. Being able to come here was great. That was all good news for me. I’m feeling good.”

While Springer may not see much action with the Celtics for the remainder of the 2023–24 season, the team aims to develop him into a regular rotation player in the long term.

Daryl Morey, President of Basketball Operations for the Sixers, didn’t mince words after trading Springer to the Celtics. Morey explained the rationale behind the trade, stating, “We had to look at, what are the odds that Jaden Springer, who I think has a great future, helps our playoff rotation in the one, two, three-year horizon?” Morey elaborated that, while he believes in Springer’s potential, the trade was made in consideration of immediate needs and future prospects for the team.

With Springer potentially becoming a key player for the Celtics, the Sixers will find themselves facing him four times each regular season for years to come.

Furthermore, after the trade deadline, Brad Stevens disclosed that the Celtics had been eyeing Jaden Springer for quite some time before finally acquiring him.

“We’ve been closely monitoring his development over the years,” Stevens informed reporters, as reported by CLNS Media Boston’s Sports Network’s YouTube Channel. “We were intrigued by him in the draft a few years ago. He was the youngest player in that draft, and he’s still only 21 years old.”

Stevens went on to mention that Springer’s performance against the Celtics in a preseason game further solidified their interest.

“I would say the preseason game here had more of an impact than that,” Stevens remarked. “So we were already impressed by his strides. Additionally, everyone on our team who is as passionate about basketball as we are closely follows all the G League action, and he was outstanding in the G League playoffs last year. He’s consistently performed well against us when he’s been with the Maine team. We’ve watched him play live several times up there, so he’s someone we’ve had our eyes on for a while.”
