Newcastle United injuries: Callum Wilson released a poignant statement following his most recent setback.
Callum Wilson will be sidelined for a significant period of time for Newcastle United due to a chest injury he sustained against Nottingham Forest.
Wilson’s injury was described as “strange” by Magpies boss Eddie Howe after the player struggled with the ball during the team’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest and looked uneasy afterwards. After surgery on Friday for his pectoral issue, the 31-year-old will likely be out for nine to twelve weeks.
Wilson scored seven goals in his first four Premier League starts to start the season in a promising manner. Additionally, the striker made his Champions League debut with Newcastle and was a member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
However, the striker’s season has been derailed by a string of injuries, as he had to withdraw from the England camp in November. He has already missed nine games this season and is probably going to be out till the last few games of the competition.
Wilson also posted a passionate message on Instagram after realizing his dreams of playing for England in Euro 2024 had been crushed.
“In a season that was one of my most exciting ones to date…the roller coaster that is football continues,” he stated in a tweet. “Another hurdle to face & some time away from the pitch, after a freak injury whilst trying to protect the ball, to help get the 3 points over the line 😔”Setback after setback, but I’ll never give up or cave in because I’m a fighter who will always sacrifice myself for the team. As I have done countless times in my life, I will get back up and carry on like usual 💪🏾 “To all the true people who have helped me so far, I promise to return.”
With 45 goals, Ad Wilson ranks third among Newcastle’s all-time Premier League scorers, just two goals behind second-place Peter Beardsley and 103 behind first-place Alan Shearer. His current deal, which was extended earlier this season, is slated to expire in June of next year, thus his long-term future with the club remains questionable.
