Daniel Farke has provided an injury update prior to Leeds United’s upcoming clash against Plymouth Argyle. With the Whites aiming for their seventh consecutive victory in the Championship, they may face a setback as a few pivotal players could be sidelined for the highly anticipated encounter, marking the third encounter between the two sides within a short span of three weeks.
Pascal Struijk, Sam Byram, Patrick Bamford, Jamie Shackleton, Karl Darlow, and Stuart Dallas were notably absent from Leeds United’s recent triumph over Swansea City. An updated status has been disclosed today.
Bamford, initially set to start against Swansea, had to withdraw during the warm-up due to muscular issues. Joel Piroe filled in for him. In the pre-match press conference, Farke shared insights on Bamford’s absence, indicating he’s likely to miss the next two matches.
Farke confirmed Bamford’s unavailability, stating, “Sadly, he’s out for this game. He’s dealing with calf problems. While we don’t foresee a lengthy absence, I don’t expect him to feature against Leicester. However, we anticipate his return either for the cup fixture or the subsequent league match.”
This setback couldn’t have come at a worse time for the £7 million striker, especially as he recently expressed his peak satisfaction on the field in quite some time.
Despite not starting a single game in the first half of the season, Bamford has regained his goal-scoring prowess since the New Year, playing a pivotal role in Leeds’ impressive streak.
Fortunately, Bamford’s absence won’t be prolonged, and it appears he’ll return just in time for a hectic period of fixtures in early March, which holds significant importance for the team.
In the meantime, Piroe, who found the net against his former club, Swansea, upon his return to the starting lineup, will serve as a more than capable replacement.
