A popular Wasps player is in tears after announcing his retirement.

Former England fly-half Danny Cipriani has officially announced his retirement from rugby, describing it as a moment of liberation in a social media post. This decision comes as no surprise, as the 36-year-old hasn’t played since his stint with Bath in the Premiership back in 2022.

Despite his undeniable talent, Cipriani’s career has been marred by off-field controversies, including disputes with various coaches, since his professional debut with the Wasps in 2006. He had multiple spells with the Wasps and also played for the Melbourne Rebels, Sale Sharks, and Gloucester during his career.

In his announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Cipriani expressed his realization that he no longer desires to play rugby, describing the moment as both sobering and liberating. He earned 16 caps over a decade-long international career, with his last Test match for England being in 2018. He expressed gratitude to his coaches, club staff, supporters, and teammates for their contributions and memories throughout his career.

Cipriani concluded his post by expressing excitement for the future as he transitions from being a semi-retired player to being officially retired.
