Crystal Palace have ‘put a few calls in’ over late transfers

Crystal Palace is actively working to secure reinforcements before the imminent transfer deadline. The club has inquired about West Ham United player Maxwel Cornet, with Sporting Director Dougie Freedman making efforts to finalize Deadline Day deals at Selhurst Park, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge. While the Eagles recently acquired Daniel Munoz from Genk, manager Roy Hodgson is still exploring the market for additional players.

The focus is on Cornet, and Palace is considering a last-minute move for the West Ham star, as reported by the Telegraph. West Ham is open to sanctioning his departure to create space in their squad for a wide forward. The potential deal involves a six-month loan for the Ivory Coast international, who has three-and-a-half years remaining on his £65,000-per-week contract at West Ham.

Transfer insider Dean Jones revealed that Cornet is on Palace’s radar as they seek to strengthen their attacking options. Despite his release clause activation from Burnley in 2022, injuries and a lack of form have limited Cornet’s playing time at West Ham. Palace, struggling to secure a traditional striker, is exploring alternative options.

Palace initiated an inquiry for Cornet this week, expressing interest in securing his loan services for the remainder of the season. While West Ham is focused on offloading other squad members, the possibility of Cornet joining Selhurst Park in the final hours of the transfer window cannot be ruled out, according to Michael Bridge.

In addition to potential incoming transfers, there are reports that Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is being targeted by Nottingham Forest. Despite a dismissed loan offer earlier in the week, Forest is willing to pay £15 million for Johnstone’s permanent arrival at the City Ground. The 30-year-old goalkeeper, who has kept five clean sheets in 19 appearances this season, is reportedly interested in the move to enhance his chances of being selected for England’s squad in Euro 2024. Dean Henderson, who joined Palace from Manchester United in the summer, has been the preferred goalkeeper in recent weeks due to Johnstone’s injury.
