LSU has finalized contracts with Corey Raymond, its new defensive coach. Here are the specifics.

LSU completed its hire of new defensive coaches Corey Raymond, Kevin Peoples, and Jake Olsen on Thursday, and contract details are now available.

The Advocate got documents of the three coaches’ contracts, which vary in terms of remuneration and length. The transactions are subject to background checks and approval by the LSU board of supervisors, which meets again on February 23.

Raymond returned to LSU and signed a two-year contract with a team option for 2026. LSU will pay him $200,000 for his first season, which will be offset by his buyout from Florida, where he was sacked last November as part of a staff change.

After that, Raymond will earn $755,000 each year, which is equal to his stated pay with the Gators. LSU will have the option of keeping Raymond on staff in 2026. He is the only coach with an option year on his contract.

Raymond formerly coached defensive backs at LSU from 2012 until 2021. He earned $600,000 last season, but he and other coaches took a 5% pay cut because of the financial burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. Raymond was one of many employees let go by Brian Kelly at the time. He spent the next two years in Florida.

Peoples inked a three-year contract worth $2.1 million last Friday. He will earn $700,000 per year, which is a big increase from his former income. According to his contract as Missouri’s edge rushers coach, Peoples has made $400,000 in each of the last two years. LSU also paid his $500,000 buyout.

Olsen received a two-year contract. He will earn $350,000 in his first season and $400,000 in his second.

LSU normally appoints new assistants to three-year contracts, but Olsen will be coaching in the Football Bowl Subdivision for the first time. Over the last three years, he has worked as a defensive analyst at both LSU and Missouri. Olsen was most recently an on-field coach for Northwestern State in 2020.

All three coaches are also eligible for postseason bonuses comparable to the rest of LSU’s assistants. They would be paid $25,000 for a Southeastern Conference championship and $100,000 for a national victory. They might also earn $15,000 by winning the Broyles Award, which is granted to the nation’s best assistant.

LSU has now committed $16.11 million over the next three years to its new defensive staff, including $1.95 million in buyouts for defensive coordinator Blake Baker, defensive line Bo Davis, and Peoples. LSU also owes around $5.4 million in buyouts for the former defensive coaches, excluding potential mitigation.
