Jaylen Brown quips that ex-Celtics star will have a ‘annoying’ reunion game.

Houston — As the Celtics restructured their core last summer, they brought in a slew of new players in the hopes of conquering the NBA’s Everest. The natural process of altering the roster meant that they’d see a lot of familiar teammates during the season.

This includes former Celtics big man Grant Williams, who is now with the Mavericks. Williams played his first four seasons with Boston, where he established himself as a rotation player. But he wanted more minutes and a big new contract, so the Celtics sent him to Dallas in a sign-and-trade.

Williams has many supporters on the current Celtics since he always carried some little brother energy with him. Williams has a lot of supporters on the current Celtics since he was always there for his teammates like a little brother figure. Jaylen Brown channeled the same energy when discussing his former teammate following their victory against the Rockets. The Celtics face the Mavericks at 8:30 p.m. Monday in Dallas.

“Not really,” Brown answered when asked if he was excited to see Williams. “No, I love Grant. I’m confident he’ll be ready for an irritating game. But we simply have to come out and be the greatest versions of ourselves.

It’s not only Williams; the Mavericks also have former Celtics guard Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks now have a 24-18 record and are sixth in the Western Conference, led by all-world talent Luka Doncic.

Williams has averaged 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists for the Mavericks in 38 games (27 starts) this season. The counting stats aren’t much different from his Celtics days, with a little bump across the board, although he’s getting more starts. Williams has struggled throughout the season after signing a four-year, $54 million contract with the Mavs via sign-and-trade.

Williams and his former teammates will most likely be joking and bonding. Brown isn’t the only one who has a tight friendship with Williams. Guys like Jayson Tatum and Derrick White were close to the large man. So it’s a good change of pace for the C’s during the dog days of the season.
