Javier Manquillo is almost certain to join Celta Vigo in January, according to The Athletic.
The right-back would therefore be reunited with Rafa Benitez, the former manager of Newcastle United who signed him in 2017 after he was moved to Tyneside from Atletico Madrid.
According to Chris Waugh, Newcastle hasn’t moved forward with any acquisitions as of yet, but they are trying to get rid of a few bench players to free up money for wages and lift the FFP/PSR restrictions that are preventing us from hiring new players.
Due to a string of ailments, Ezoic Manquillo hasn’t played this season and his contract expires this summer. After surgery, he is nearly fully recovered, though, and it is anticipated that he will join the La Liga team to conclude his six and a half-year stay at St. James’ Park.
All sides would benefit from a move, which would free up roster space, lower payroll costs, and let go of a right-back who has fallen below Emil Krafth, Kieran Trippier, and Tino Livramento in the starting lineup.
Throughout the Benitez and Steve Bruce years, the Spaniard has been a reliable servant. During Howe’s debut season at Leeds, he made a big cameo, playing a blinding game against Raphinha in a massive 1-0 win that ignited our 2021/22 turnaround.
