According to The Athletic (Transfer News Live, 18.01.24, 09:31), Huddersfield Town and Watford attacker Rhys Healey are in early talks over a permanent deal.
Healey, a striker from FC Toulouse in France, was the sole new player Watford brought in for the summer. Despite suffering an ACL injury in his final year in France, the Welshman was quite successful over his three years there, finishing with 39 goals and seven assists in 77 appearances.
Healy has yet to secure a consistent starting position with the Hornets, though. In his 13 appearances across all competitions, he has only started one Championship game and has only scored two goals and provided an assist.
Now, he might be moving on to other pastures, according to a story from The Athletic. According to reports, Huddersfield Town, a team in the second division, and the Watford striker are in advanced talks over a long-term contract that would likely cost £2 million.
It is further stated that, should the transfer proceed, Watford will try to sign a replacement player. A brief stay at Watford
A player rarely makes two permanent moves in less than six months, but Healy appears to be one of those players. Watford made a good profit for a guy they paid nothing for in the summer, so it’s a good deal.
Huddersfield Town will be looking to the 29-year-old to step up and become their new lucky charm. Even if he didn’t exactly click during his time at Vicarage Road, if he can play at the same level as he did in France, he might be the long-term answer to Darren Moore’s goalscoring issues.
Healey will be motivated to show that he can compete in the Championship after he proved he could play in League One and League Two while playing for MK Dons before to leaving for France. He should have more opportunities to accomplish that at Huddersfield Town.
