Crewe apparently want Austerfield after Joe White returned to parent club Newcastle United. The Railwaymen are seventh in League Two, three points shy of an automatic promotion spot.
They are led by Lee Bell, who took over the club in 2022 after previously playing for it.
Austerfield made his senior debut for Huddersfield in 2020, but has made only five appearances since then. The loan signing of Alex Matos from Chelsea and the emergence of Tom Iorpenda have increased competition in Huddersfield’s midfield.
Matos joined soon before forward Bojan Radulovic made the permanent transition from HJK Helsinki.
