After spending half of the season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, Joe White has returned to Newcastle United, the League Two team has announced.
On Saturday afternoon, Crewe defeated Swindon Town 2-1 to cap off the 21-year-old’s stint on loan. Newcastle’s injury crisis limits Crewe’s alternatives in the midfield, despite their desire to keep White on until the end of the campaign. With a thigh injury that might necessitate surgery, Joelinton could miss the rest of the season, and Elliot Anderson and Joe Willock’s return dates are unclear. Because of a betting ban, Sandro Tonali will also miss the remainder of the campaign. Consequently, Eddie Howe’s side is left with only Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, and Lewis Miley as central midfield options. Guimaraes may even be suspended for two matches with just one booking. White has played for The Magpies in friendlies but has not yet made an appearance in a competitive first team. And Crewe announced on Tuesday that he was returning to Newcastle.
“Crewe Alexandra can confirm that Joe White has returned to Newcastle United at the conclusion of his loan agreement,” the club said in a statement.
“The midfielder made 25 appearances for The Railwaymen after joining in September, scoring three goals and making three assists.”Eddie Howe, the manager of the Magpies, is interested in evaluating White because of his outstanding play and dedication to the team.
“Manager Lee Bell has stated emphatically that, should the chance present itself, he would prefer to re-sign the midfield player. We at Crewe Alexandra would want to express our gratitude to Joe for his invaluable contribution.
Magpies manager Howe stated, “It is [an opportunity for him],” in response to White’s comeback. We’ve made the decision to bring Joe back, and we’ll monitor his progress.
“I’m incredibly happy with Joe since he’s done really well, especially recently with his loan. He’s a really gifted player who needed to focus on a few things during his loan, but he’s since moved on, played frequently, and begun to score goals and assist others.”We’ll bring him back to assess his current level of play before deciding what to do with him.”
During his loan, White made 25 appearances for Crewe, tallying three assists and three goals.
