Aston Villa make transfer offer for out-of-contract Atletico Madrid star – reports

According to sources in Spain, Aston Villa has extended an offer to Mario Hermoso, the defender for Atletico Madrid.

According to SER Football España on X: "Mario Hermoso has a contract offer from #AtleticoMadrid, but it is some way off his expectations (Marca). https://t.co/IkNbZ2cOVU" / X, Villa is the Premier League club that has made Hermoso an offer. Monchi, the head of football operations at Villa, is rumored to have desired him while he was at Sevilla, and a transfer to Villa may now be in the works. Villa and Barcelona may be in for a fight as rumors suggest they have made an offer. According to Fichajes, Xavi Hernandez is reportedly interested in Hermoso and is trying to sign him. Hermoso’s contract with Atletico Madrid expires in the summer, and he might be a wise investment. Unai Emery would benefit from having a left-sided center back who can also play left defense.

The 28-year-old joined Real Madrid’s academy and has played his whole career in Spain. This season, he has made 24 appearances for Atleti across all competitions, tallying two goals and one assist. Hermoso began each of Madrid’s six Champions League matches as they advanced with a perfect record.

Hermoso joined Atletico Madrid in 2019 after reportedly paying €25 million to go from Espanyol. Real Madrid, Atleti’s opponents, on the other hand, took home half of that, and considering how vital Hermoso is to Atleti, they won’t be willing to let him go without a struggle. He is a well-known player for their first squad, and he participated in the 5-3 loss and scoredA number of Spanish players have been convinced to join Emery’s revolution since his appointment. Despite being a five-time Spain international, Hermoso hasn’t played for the national squad since 2019. His pedigree is title-winning, since he won La Liga in 2021.

While Clement Lenglet is on a season-long loan from Barcelona, Villa’s center-back alternatives right now are Pau Torres, Diego Carlos, and Ezri Kona. While Kourtney Hause is out of favor and may be traded to Real Madrid in this month’s Spanish Supercopa, Tyrone Mings is recuperating from a catastrophic knee injury he suffered against Newcastle United earlier this month.
