Luke O’Nien and Dan Ballard, Sunderland’s defense duo, are on the verge of receiving 10 yellow cards as the season enters its second half.
Sunderland’s first-choice centre-backs have each received eight cautions in the league this season, with ten yellow cards resulting in a two-game suspension.
Ballard, a former Arsenal defender, has picked up eight yellow cards this season in the Championship against Ipswich Town, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Swansea City, Millwall, West Brom, and Bristol City.
Team captain O’Nien, who has eight yellow cards and is two cautions away from a two-game suspension, received his cautions in games against Coventry City away, Southampton, Leicester City, Norwich City, Swansea City, Plymouth Argyle, Leeds United, and finally Coventry City at home.
As previously indicated, 10 yellow cards before 37 games result in an automatic two-game league ban, so the pair still have 10 games to play before the scenario resets. However, FA Cup cards are not counted in the total.
