£34m goal machine told to choose Aston Villa over Manchester United
Aston Villa and Manchester United have both been linked with Jonathan David in recent days.
Football Transfers recently claimed that the Red Devils and the Villans are ‘very interested’ in signing the Lille star this month.
The report said David has made it clear to Lille that he’s eager to make a big move, potentially in the January transfer window.
A £34million price tag for January has also been suggested by the report.
ESPN pundit Herculez Gomez has given his verdict on the speculation between the 23-year-old, Man United and Villa.
He has made his feelings very clear, urging David to “stay away” from “the toxicity that is Manchester United” and opt for Unai Emery’s Villa instead.
Gomez said on ESPN: “Let me just say that it doesn’t surprise me Jonathan David is being linked to these two teams.
“What team is better for him? Jonathan David, stay away from Manchester United!
“Stay away from the toxicity that is Manchester United, that is Erik ten Hag and that is the Glazers, as of this moment. Go as far away as possible as you can.
“Now, Aston Villa, Wow! You had my curiosity, but now you have my full attention.
“With Unai Emery, he can be a prime player and a big player in the Premier League. I absolutely love this move for Jonathan David if it were to transpire.”
Man United could really do with bolstering their attacking ranks in the January transfer window in wake of a dismal first half of the season
The Red Devils are eighth in the Premier League table, out of Europe and out of the Carabao Cup. The FA Cup is their last realistic chance of silverware this term.
Meanwhile, Villa are flying high in the top flight, they’re in the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League and in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
While Man United are currently a club in crisis, Villa are a great club to be at, so it makes sense for Gomez to be telling David to choose the latter.
The Canada international is a prolific striker, with 68 goals and 15 assists to his name from 160 Lille outings, plus 26 goals from 45 caps for his country.
He’s due a big career move, and hopefully 2024 is the year he gets it. Will Villa be the beneficiaries, or will another club land his signature?
