Eagles of Philadelphia (OC) Interviews for Brian Johnson’s position as head coach of the Carolina Panthers are anticipated

CBS Philadelphia, PA ESPN said on Wednesday that Brian Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, is anticipated to interview for the head coaching position with the Carolina Panthers.

At a press conference, Johnson declined to comment on the report.

AC/DC's Brian Johnson on hearing loss

“All of my focus is on this week, and we’ve got a great opportunity with a special group of people to go out there and put on a great performance against Tampa Bay, and that’s where all of our focus and energy are at the moment,” Johnson stated.

Johnson, 36, spent the previous two seasons as the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles on Nick Sirianni’s coaching staff before taking on the role of offensive coordinator. Before the 2023 season, Johnson assumed the position after Shane Steichen, the former offensive coordinator, left to take a head coaching position with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Eagles, who are ranked in the top 10 in almost all offensive statistical categories in Johnson’s first season as offensive coordinator, have struggled recently despite their strong performance in the previous six weeks.

The offense has only scored 25 points or more twice in the last six games, going 1-5 during that time, including games against backup quarterbacks and inferior defenses.

Throughout the 2023 season, Johnson’s situational play calling and his game-planning with Sirianni have come under fire, particularly during this difficult stretch of games leading up to the postseason.

The Panthers are seeking to replace Frank Reich, who was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles during their 2017 Super Bowl victory under former head coach Doug Pederson and the head coach of the Colts.

Interviews for Eagles deputy general manager

There will apparently be another Eagles player interviewing with the Panthers.

According to ESPN, Alec Halaby, the assistant general manager of the Eagles, conducted interviews on Wednesday for the general manager position with the Washington Commanders and will do the same with Carolina on Friday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “Panthers have been especially eyeing Halaby for quite some time now.” The player was on X.

Halaby has spent 16 years as an Eagle. He served as the team’s vice president of football operations and strategy for six seasons until being named assistant general manager in 2022.

According to his bio on the team website, Halaby has concentrated on roster management, player evaluation, resource allocation, and especially incorporating analytics into decision-making throughout his time in Philadelphia.

Prior to starting his career as an intern in the Eagles’ operations department in 2007, Halaby previously held positions as a player personnel analyst and special assistant to the general manager from 2012 to 2015.
