Nugent was pleased with his observations of Graham Alexander’s team following Derby’s defeat at Pride Park the previous evening.

“It was fully deserved,” Nugent stated when describing Derby’s third-round matchup with the Bristol Street Motors Trophy for talkSPORT 2.

“Every single one of the players that came in to replace the players who played at the weekend, I think Bradford have been fantastic to a man.”

They generated a couple of chances early on and put Derby under pressure.

“Derby appeared drab, and the modifications they made had little effect. Paul Warne is going to be really dissatisfied with the outcome of the game.

However, Bradford deserves a great deal of credit, particularly for their center half. Every header was won by Ash Taylor, and (Sam) Stubbs scored the goal.

“They had a strong defense, and Derby’s top goal scorer, James Collins, was unable to enter the contest. Bradford had every right to advance to the quarterfinals.

After his team was defeated by a League Two team, Warne said he was “embarrassed” by the way his team played.

“It is disheartening,” expressed the Derby manager. “We made some adjustments to rejuvenate the team, but the results weren’t what I had hoped for.

Although we made a change at halftime, that was always the plan.

“We went with a really strong team that should have been good enough to win, but it wasn’t; we didn’t disrespect the cup.”

Sam Stubbs’ header from a corner to win the game infuriated Warne the most, believing his team’s response to falling behind was inadequate.

“To put it mildly, it is quite frustrating to give up on a set piece.

“What disappointed me more was that we didn’t really play with enough character on the ball when we were behind a goal.” It simply got more and more tense.

“In every game, you could fall down by one goal, but if you stick to your game plan, you’ll have opportunities.

In the closing fifteen minutes, we did create opportunities. Everything seemed to be moving at a breakneck pace.

“I just didn’t think we were anywhere near our levels that we’ve shown,” the rather embarrassed person said.
