Newcastle United’s injury woes have persisted; despite expectations that he would be fit to play against Manchester City, one player is currently thought to be weeks away from returning.

Joe Willock, who had to contend with a hamstring ailment from the previous season before developing an Achilles tendon issue in November, has only made six appearances for Newcastle this season in all competitions.

Despite rumors that he was hoping to return for the match against Manchester City, a recent report from The Athletic indicates that the midfielder will still be out for a few weeks.

Willock’s absence has been noticed greatly, especially in the last month or so, as Newcastle has at times this season looked slow on the ball and in need of a little bit of pace.

The midfield player briefly recovered from his hamstring injury and demonstrated why Newcastle needed him with his quick runs into the box.

Willock even scored a spectacular own goal in a 3-0 Carabao Cup triumph over Manchester United, but he would soon be sidelined again due to a fresh injury.

Newcastle has a serious midfield issue, with Joelinton now predicted to miss January’s games as well. This means that in crucial matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa, the young Lewis Miley will probably be called upon once more.

Newcastle needs more players in order to prevent another injury catastrophe.

When too many players are sidelined due to injury and the healthy players are too worn out to perform at their peak, Newcastle has previously witnessed how quickly their form may deteriorate.
