Newcastle United reportedly have an option to recall the midfielder in January.
Isaac Hayden is expected to make a comeback to Newcastle United this month, according to Standard Liege CEO Pierre Locht.
After bids to Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday fell through in the last week of the summer transfer window, the 28-year-old signed with Liege in September.
Although Hayden has made 11 appearances in Belgium, he hasn’t played in the last five games. The Daily Telegraph claims that in light of interest from Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Preston North End, and Plymouth Argyle, the Magpies may choose to recall the former Arsenal player. That is the most likely outcome, Locht acknowledges.
According to Sport Witness, Locht told the Belgian publication La Derniere Heure, “It’s likely that he won’t come back, yes.” “We were looking for a guy who could instantly elevate the club. Isaac was a seasoned Premier League player. He is a reliable component and a true number six who can end the game.
However, he was perceived by the team as being too unreliable despite his occasional strong performances.
Hayden trained apart from Eddie Howe’s main squad throughout the summer before departing for Belgium after returning from his loan stint at Norwich City the previous season.
Newcastle, who will be without Sandro Tonali until 2024, is thinking of bringing in a midfield player in January. Hayden, on the other hand, is contracted through 2026 and will not receive a second opportunity on Tyneside.
Rafa Benitez signed Hayden in 2016, and he helped Newcastle win the Championship in his debut season.
He has played for United in 171 games overall, although his last game was in December 2021 after he was dropped off of the 25-man roster for the second half of the 21–22 season.
