The Boston Celtics’ January 8 loss to the Indiana Pacers was the result of numerous causes. The most notable of them came when, in the last seconds of the match, the officials reversed a foul call on Buddy Hield. The officials overturned the call even though there was clear video evidence that Hield struck Jaylen Brown in the head as the latter raised his hand for a shot.
Brown disagreed with the call and demanded an investigation into the referees’ decision during his postgame press conference.
“I believe he clearly struck my head. Without a doubt, we must conduct some research. That’s all I have to say. That seemed like a no-brainer to me. The phrase “head part of the ball” is new to me. According to Brown, that doesn’t make sense to him, as reported by the Celtics on NBC Sports Boston’s X account.
Brown continued to express his annoyance at the call reversal because he was aware of the outcome.
That made our team lose the match. Do you think we won’t get frustrated? Our goal is to develop positive habits. Our goal is to win as many games as we can. That’s why we just dropped one, so I think we’re entitled to be angry. The league ought to be aware. It goes without saying that we will discuss it after the game. Therefore, while I believe there shouldn’t be any fines, I do believe that one should be looked into.
Buddy Hield Acknowledges Communicating With Jaylen Brown
Buddy Hield acknowledged that he spoke with Brown after the Celtics game, but he did not explicitly acknowledge fouling him.
According to Celtics on CLNS Media’s X account, Hield told reporters, “I thought I might have hit him a little bit, but they have three refs out there, and they have cameras, and they got to slow down the angles of it.” “I may have given Brown a small bump on the head, but I know I touched the ball.” It’s the end of the game, but I’m not sure.
Benedict Matthurin thought he was being called for a foul by the refs on that play, so he aggressively motioned for the Pacers to challenge. Conversely, Hield indicated he had no problem with the call by raising his hands above his head.
Jaylen Brown’s Further Response to the Rejected Call
Jaylen Brown won’t be backing down from this contentious call anytime soon. Following the Celtics’ defeat, Brown tweeted, “We see you (Buffalo Wild Wings),” quoting BBallBreakdown’s X account, which clarified why the decision that was reversed was illogical.
When Quentin Richardson, a former NBA player, responded to the call by mentioning Buffalo Wild Wings, Brown was the first to make this remark.
This is a reference to an old Buffalo Wild Wings commercial for context. In the commercial, a referee asks the restaurant patrons if he should call an overtime football game.
Asserting that the refs fixed the game, Brown shouted out Buffalo Wild Wings. Although Brown stated he doesn’t desire a fine, his actions can nevertheless result in one.
