Milan is ready to attempt for a €50-60m striker – a €12m man might be used as leverage.

According to a source, AC Milan is hunting for the proper striker to lead the line for years to come and are interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.

Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) confirms Gianluca Di Marzio’s tale, in which he said Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada was present at Bologna-Genoa to witness Zirkzee and Albert Gudmundsson.

If you follow our blog on a regular basis, this should come as no surprise considering our exclusive a few months ago stating that Milan are scouting Zirkzee. At 22 years old, the Dutchman appears to be a good fit for the project, with Serie A experience, growth potential, and a decent pay.

According to Tuttosport, Milan prefers Zirkzee to Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy or other recent centre-forwards such as Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and Lille’s Jonathan David.

Bayern Munich has a €40m release clause in their favor as well, but as Bologna’s sporting director Marco Di Vaio has often stated, this fixed price only applies to them and not to the other clubs.

The Rossoblu are expected to expect a greater price for Zirkzee today, anywhere between €50-60 million, if not more, assuming Bayern do not move in to attempt to bring him back.

As a result, even if the management has a card that might open the discussion and cut the beginning price, the path ahead for Milan is steep: Alexis Saelemaekers is on loan at Bologna with a €12 million buyout option.
