Newcastle advance for hefty transfer windfall if big-money deal is completed…

If Ivan Toney is able to complete a high-profile transfer from Brentford, Newcastle United appears to be in for a large windfall in transfers.

When Toney completed a £10 million transfer to Brentford in 2020, Peterborough included a 30% sell-on provision to his contract, as Sky Sports writer Mark McAdam disclosed. It’s estimated that we also owe 30% of the money that Peterborough will get, so we might be getting paid a sizable sum.

If Toney makes a significant move this month or over the summer—both Arsenal and Chelsea are interested—Brentford is expected to seek over £100 million for the former Toon striker, which means a cost of roughly £9–10 million may be added to our budget.

“We know that both Arsenal and Chelsea are in the market for a top-class striker, which Ivan Toney is of course,” a Sky reporter stated while appearing on The Transfer Show. Though Thomas Frank is known to have made jokes about more than £100 million, it is possible. That’s the asking price for him, even though Brentford is unwilling to let him go.

“I want to add that since Peterborough sold Ivan Toney to Brentford, they have a 30% sell-on, with 30% going to Newcastle. As a result, Peterborough and Newcastle will be closely monitoring and watching this situation.” Many clubs will be hoping he makes a large money move because, for instance, if he left for £100 million, £30 million would go to Peterborough and £9 million to Newcastle.

It will be quite helpful given our continuous battle with FFP, which keeps limiting our capacity to make large purchases.
