Coach Prime And Departed Colorado Football DC Agreed On Coaching Change

Colorado Football DC’s Coach Prime and Departed Agreed on a Coaching Change

Charles Kelly, the former defensive coordinator for Colorado football, and Coach Prime reached a consensus over Kelly’s departure from Boulder.

Deion Sanders’ desire to see his staff and players pursue their careers to the fullest extent possible is said to have motivated Coach Prime and Charles Kelly to allow the latter’s departure from the Colorado football program to join Hugh Freeze’s Auburn Tigers, according to 247Sports’ Carl Reed Jr.

Reed began, “I spoke with Coach Prime this morning regarding Defensive Coordinator Charles Kelly leaving for Auburn. This was something that they both agreed upon.” Coach Prime always supports his coaches in taking the actions they believe are best for their families and careers.”

Prior to Ron Roberts being appointed as Freeze’s defensive coordinator, Kelly desired the position, as On3’s Justin Hokanson would later report.

“Kelly is an Auburn alum who very much wanted the DC position last year and had support for the position before Hugh Freeze went with Ron Roberts,” Hokanson began by stating, “Kelly would have taken the DC position at Auburn over Colorado, and now he’s finally back after being a GA in 1993.”

The next Colorado football DC hiring will be an expert at creating an NFL atmosphere.
Reed hinted at a significant coaching acquisition for the Buffs’ defensive coordinator post—someone who will create an NFL culture in Boulder.

“The Defensive Coordinator that is coming in, buckle up,” Reed wrote on Twitter. Because of our relationship and level of trust, I can’t reveal the identity to you just yet. But this action clearly demonstrates the dedication to creating an NFL atmosphere.”

Throughout the offseason, Warren Sapp’s name has been associated with Colorado, and Coach Prime has now verified that the 51-year-old will join the Buffs in 2024. Though it’s unclear if that’s the player Reed was referring to, Sapp brings a wealth of NFL connections and expertise to the table as a six-time All-Pro defensive end.
