The latest transfer news in the Premier League as Aston Villa reportedly close in on the signing of an £8.7m forward.
Aston Villa have reportedly beaten Fiorentina to the permanent signing of Hellas Verona forward Cyril Ngonge, with a deal said to be nearing completion.
With five goals and two assists in 17 league appearances, the 23-year-old former Belgium U21 international has been one of the most interesting young players in Serie A this season. Fiorentina have attempted to promote Ngonge in Italy, but Unai Emery’s side appear to have won the race.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, was overjoyed when Hellas Verona orally accepted his opening offer for Ngonge, which was in the area of £8.7 million. If the report is correct, all that remains is an agreement on personal terms, a medical, and the signing of paperwork.
Cyril Ngonge, the Aston Villa target, is who?
Ngonge is a versatile attacking midfielder who primarily plays as a right winger but can also play as a centre-forward, second striker, attacking midfielder, or left winger. Ngonge has 31 Serie A matches under his belt, with eight goals and three assists. In 66 appearances as a right winger, he has 23 goals and seven assists.
Ngonge was a significant player for FC Groningen until joining Hellas Verona in January 2023, scoring 11 goals and assisting five times in 57 games. Ngonge previously played for Club Brugge, PSV Eindhoven, and RKC Waalwijk.
