Newcastle moves for “one of the most exciting CB prospects in Europe” with a £70 million release clause.
Over the transfer, the Magpies have gotten in touch.
A highly regarded young defender who is considered “one of the most exciting” players in his position in Europe has been contacted by Newcastle United.
News about transfers to Newcastle
Monday night’s 4-2 loss to Liverpool on the road highlighted the Magpies’ dismal season and reinforced the possibility that new players would need to be added during the January transfer window. Newcastle has been linked to a number of players that might help them revitalize their team. According to a recent rumor, they may try to sign Paulo Dybala, a star player for Roma and Argentina who is expected to depart the Serie A powerhouses soon.
Nevertheless, the four goals conceded at Anfield showed that the Magpies should focus on strengthening the team’s core rather than adding flashy individuals. Crystal Palace mainstay Marc Guehi and Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah have both surfaced as possible targets.
Even if Sven Botman is back in the lineup, Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar are nearing the end of their careers, and it seems like now is the appropriate moment to find a long-term center-back partner for Botman.
Newcastle gets in touch with Diomande Ousmane
Sporting CB center-back Ousmane Diomande has been approached by Newcastle over a move to St James’ Park, according to a recent update from Football Insider.
“Sources tell Football Insider that Newcastle United has gotten in touch with Ousmane Diomande’s entourage at Sporting CP in preparation for a possible summer transfer. The Magpies are reportedly prepared to compete with Arsenal this year for the 20-year-old’s signature.
“It is estimated that Diomande’s Sporting contract, which is scheduled to expire in June 2027, contains a release clause valued at approximately £70 million. It will be difficult for Arsenal and Newcastle to approve a move of that magnitude in January, and Football Insider has learned from a reliable source that the two teams are instead considering a potential summer transfer.”
Even at the age of 20, Diomande has already established himself as one of Sporting’s most important central defenders, starting 15 games in the Primeira Liga and four in the Europa League thus far this season. He is coupled with Goncalo Inacio, another transfer target for Newcastle; together, they are a very talented team.
It would be unrealistic to expect Diomande to instantly go into Eddie Howe’s squad and make a significant impact because he is still developing as a player, but at the conclusion of the season, he might prove to be an improvement over Schar. Although his contract’s rumored £70 million release clause is a significant price, Newcastle should have more money in the summer, so if they think he can be a long-term star at St. James’, he might be a terrific choice.
Given that Diomande has been described as “one of the most exciting CB prospects in Europe” by football talent evaluator Jacek Kulig, which speaks volumes about his potential as a player in the long run, Newcastle would be wise to move quickly to acquire him.
