Charlie Cresswell has been linked with a move away from Leeds United this month as he continues to battle for playing time – and manager Daniel Farke thinks it is up to the defender whether he stays or goes.
Cresswell, 21, was left out of the Leeds squad again on Monday as the Whites defeated Birmingham City 3-0. Leeds got goals from Patrick Bamford, Dan James, and Crysencio Summerville at Elland Road.
But Cresswell was gone yet again. The defender has not played a single minute in any of our last 16 Championship games, barely making the squad three times. He doesn’t have much hope.
The England U21 defender is being pursued by Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Southampton, Rangers, and Ipswich Town. According to reports, Cresswell has decided to leave, either on loan or permanently.
According to Leeds Live, Farke was asked about a transfer for Cresswell at his post-match press conference. He stated that while Leeds want to keep the £4 million man, it is up to the centre-back to stay.
“We will see,” Farke said of the Cresswell reports. “He is proud and eager to play after being a key player at Millwall.” Places are up for grabs. It is up to him whether he wants to take on this task and climb the ladder.
“We’ll see whether he wants something different. It was no coincidence that we granted him a new contract. We believe in him. It is critical that he like the challenge. “There is no desire on our part to let him go,” Farke remarked.
