It appears that West Ham United may make an unexpected move in the January transfer window to recruit a player from Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham is rumored to be considering a bid to recruit a Tottenham player who hasn’t played much this season. The January transfer window is now open.
Jonathan Tah appears to be the guy that Director of Football Tim Steidten and Hammers manager David Moyes have decided is their top target as they search for a new center-back this winter.
West Ham, though, might be seeking to add a player a bit closer to home. Eric Dier, a defender for Tottenham, is reportedly very much on our radar, according to a report from Football Transfers. We were connected to signing Dier three years ago, but that clearly didn’t work out.
It’s also possible that the Hammers have already contacted Spurs over a potential signing of the England international with 49 caps.
Dier has only played 198 minutes in just four Premier League games for Spurs this season (Transfermarkt).
In all honesty, I don’t think there is any validity to the rumor, even if I think the 29-year-old would be an extremely bad addition for West Ham. Seldom do the two clubs conduct business together.
It seems that West Ham wants to sign a Tottenham player.
According to Football Transfers, the Hammers have already contacted the former Sporting Lisbon defender about signing with them.
I apologize, but I just don’t think this will work out. For starters, I don’t think we need him because Moyes currently has choices at center back in Nayef Aguerd, Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Angelo Ogbonna.
Even if Moyes was interested in Dier, I’m very confident Spurs would not consider selling a player to us in the middle of the season.
Scott Parker moved from East London to North London over 13 years ago in 2011, the last transfer between the two clubs.
The last time we actually paid a price for a player from Spurs was when Alan Curbishley brought Calum Davenport to Upton Park from White Hart Lane in January 2007. That was when we signed Robbie Keane on loan from Spurs in January 2011.
Besides all of that, Dier has been a complete disaster for the Spurs in the last two years. His rapid fall has been amazing to see, and even with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero out with injuries at center back, he is not close to playing under Ange Postecoglou at this time.
That essentially tells us everything we need to know about the 29-year-old, and if West Ham were to sign the Tottenham Hotspur star during the January transfer window, I would be stunned. I just don’t think it’s happening.
