The manager of Ibrox has given an update on potential future moves for Rangers during the forthcoming transfer season.
With a sly smile, Philippe Clement addressed Rangers’ transfer situation before of a major battle with Celtic.
The Belgian signed Wolves’ Fabio Silva as his first winter window acquisition before January. The striker is on a six-month loan from Chelsea, but given how often Lawrence Shankland is mentioned, there will probably be more debate about adding more firepower in the future.
Clement grinned as he responded to a question concerning the possible signing of a striker after Silva, saying that the Old Firm activity takes precedence. He remarked, “Well asked! I have stated from the outset that I will not be talking about those topics. I hope we can accomplish everything we have planned to do in January by following the very clear plan that the board and everyone else in the club have agreed upon.
“I also hope that we win each and every game. Since you put in a lot of work, I’m also at ease. I am aware that everyone in the club is really motivated to work hard and get the greatest results possible.
“There are many young, aspirational people in this building who have a great desire to see this club continue to grow. To get the best results for the club, that’s what we’re going to do over the next five weeks, but January is a unique month, so let’s make the most of it.”
In addition, Clement expressed both relief and disappointment over attacker Abdallah Sima’s AFCON call-up, which will prevent him from playing in games in January. “I’m not happy that he has been selected!” he joked. But really, we are pleased for him since it is always an honor to play for your nation. The president and I had an excellent conversation, and he will be available on January 2 before departing on January 3.
