Murphy Mahoney is a QPR loanee, and Swindon Town manager Michael Flynn has stated that his season is probably done.
In the summer, Swindon Town made a move to sign the goalie on a season-long loan; however, he has since sustained a hamstring injury.
Mahoney, 22, has participated in 25 games across all competitions for the League Two team this season.
According to a Swindon Advertiser report, Flynn stated: “I think it is quite a serious hamstring strain.” Furthermore, from my experience, it doesn’t look good if they are still really sore when they get home.
“This is not good news at all; I would say we are probably looking at a high grade two to a grade three strain.”
QPR loan man blow
Back in June, Mahoney received permission from QPR to temporarily sign up with Swindon in order to assist him gain additional experience. Since then, he has been the Wiltshire club’s top goalkeeper, but they will now need to recruit a new stopper in January in order to play the second half of this season.
The man, who was born in Reading, played for Wycombe Wanderers and Caversham Town before joining the Hoops in 2012.
Since then, he has advanced through the academy and has been a consistent member of the R’s at different youth levels in recent years.
Mahoney has only made two appearances for the first team in his career. In order to further his development, he has previously been loaned out to Welling United, Bath City, and Stratford Town.
His deal with QPR expires in the summer of 2020, and it is unclear if the Championship team will extend it. It is likely going to rely on the division in which they play. His priority going forward will be returning to maximum fitness.
