David Wagner has put Championship rivals on notice. Norwich City is back in action.
After one defeat in eight games, the Canaries have moved within two points of the top six after a dreadful run of seven league defeats in nine.
City head to promotion rivals West Brom on Boxing Day in high spirits, having defeated Wagner’s previous team, Huddersfield, at Carrow Road.
“This team stuck together during a difficult time when it was easy to blame or point fingers at each other.” “They have not done so,” he stated. “They raised their hand and said, ‘OK, that’s not good enough.'” I’ve got to do better and get through this’. First and foremost, this is what gives myself and the rest of the team in the locker room a lot of confidence, belief, and boldness.
“The players deserve all of the credit and praise because they win football games.” Coming out of this period with recent results and performances gives you a lot of confidence, especially now that we have guys back in training and games. Josh Sargent is the final one to return to training.
“You can feel it in training; everyone pushes everyone else, and the level of performance in training goes up a notch.” Now we have to keep going, keep believing, and keep building up the players who were out for a little longer.
“And then hopefully we are more lucky in the second half of the season in terms of keeping the squad healthy.”
City reached the halfway point of the season on a high note after winning their third home league game in four against the Terriers.
“We have a base, in terms of having nearly a fully fit squad available, but a base in terms of the togetherness and the spirit in the dressing room,” Wagner went on to say. “We started working on this in pre-season.”
“I never had the feeling that broke down, even during our difficult time, and this means a lot to me.” It demonstrates the dressing room character that they really remained together over this period, and now hopefully we can continue our run.”
