The two Pilgrims’ strikers were both substituted with what looked like serious injuries during the 3-2 win against Rotherham United at Home Park last Saturday.
A very relieved Plymouth Argyle have had their fears allayed that Mustapha Bundu suffered a broken leg during the 3-2 Championship win against Rotherham United at Home Park last weekend.
Bundu suffered a badly gashed shin when he was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle from Rotherham defender Hakeem Odoffin and was stretchered off before being taken to the hospital for an assessment.
The 26-year-old striker had only been on the pitch for a matter of seconds after being sent on as a substitute for Ryan Hardie after he was concussed in a sickening clash of heads with another Millers’ defender, Daniel Ayala.
Fortunately, Hardie suffered no other significant issues and should he come through the concussion protocol successfully, he will be available for Argyle’s Sky-televised Championship clash against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Friday, December 29 (6 p.m.).
Bundu, meanwhile, has not been ruled out of being involved in the Pilgrims’ game against Wayne Rooney’s Birmingham City on Saturday.
Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip said: “Initially, we really were concerned that he had broken his leg. Thankfully, that’s not the case. He’s sore and we are monitoring it kind of minute by minute, really.
“I don’t know if he’s going to be ready or not for the weekend. He could be but we just don’t know yet.”
As for Hardie, Dewsnip said: “He will be out, my understanding is, until the Southampton game, as long as he passes all the medical checks on the protocol of return to play. He wants to play right now, but he’s not.”
Argyle will be without goalkeeper Mike Cooper against Birmingham due to a medical collateral ligament knee injury that he suffered in training last week.
Cooper is expected to be ruled out for between eight and 10 weeks so Conor Hazard is now Arsenal’s first-choice keeper, with Callum Burton as his backup.(6 p.m.)(6 p.m.)
