NEWCASTLE HAVE BID ‘READY’ FOR STAR AFTER RECORD £30M CRYSTAL PALACE OFFER

Newcastle United are ‘ready’ to bid around £22 million for Juventus starlet Matias Soule in the January transfer window amid claims of a rival offer from Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace.

If Corriere dello Sport are to be believed, Newcastle United may be wasting their time. And not just because Juventus have made it pretty clear that they have no plans to terminate Mathias Soule’s loan deal at Frosinone and sell the Argentine during the winter window.

Crystal Palace, Corriere say, have offered £30 million for Soule – via intermediaries – in a deal that would make the 20-year-old their club’s new record signing, replacing Christian Benteke in the Eagles history books.

Newcastle, then, appear to be on a hiding to nothing if Tuttosport are correct, and that their offer comes in at near £10 million less than Palace’s.

Soule has scored six goals in Serie A since moving to Frosinone. The twinkle-toed forward, who makes a habit of cutting in from the right wing like his idol Lionel Messi, may run into difficulties attempting to secure a first-team spot if he is to end up at St James’ Park or Selhurst Park.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe already has Miguel Almiron, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy competing for a place in the wide areas. At Crystal Palace, meanwhile, Soule would face direct competition from Michael Olise. One of the most talented young forwards in the Premier League now has 12 top-flight assists since the start of last season, setting up Jordan Ayew with a typically sumptuous cross in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

‘Will become a top player’
“Juve has important bosses. They know what to do. I say that (Soule) will become an important player, but I don’t know if he will play at Juve or elsewhere,” Guido Angelozzi, Frosinone’s sporting director, tells Tuttomercatoweb.

“There are many English clubs that follow him. Every week, many Premier League clubs follow him. He’s a player who will become a top player.

“I think (he will stay beyond January). he is currently with Frosinone, and so we don’t think about it. We have very good relations with Juve. We try to do the best for the boy and therefore for Juve.”
