Nottingham Forest set to make big manager decision ahead of Newcastle United Boxing Day clash - Chronicle Live

When Nottingham Forest visits St. James’ Park to play Newcastle United on Boxing Day, they might have a new manager in charge. According to rumors, the club had discussions about taking over at the City Ground with Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves and Tottenham, putting Steve Cooper’s job in jeopardy.

With just one victory in the last 13 Premier League games, Cooper’s future is in jeopardy as Forest falls to just five points above the relegation zone. It is thought that club representatives have discussed Cooper’s replacement with the Portuguese.

Nuno hasn’t had a job since leaving Al-Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League in November. After an unsuccessful four months at Spurs, he looks set to return to the Premier League two years later. After leading Forest from the bottom of the Championship to Premier League survival the previous season, Cooper has garnered the backing of the Forest supporters.

Although the support of the fans kept him from being fired the previous season, owner Evangelos Marinakis appears to have run out of patience after making significant investments again this summer. According to reports from Portugal, a deal for Nuno might be finalized before Saturday’s match at home against Bournemouth.

This coming weekend, three days after their match against Luton Town, Newcastle will host Forest on Boxing Day. On New Year’s Day, they travel to Anfield to play Liverpool. Although they haven’t played Forest yet this year, they prevailed in their two Premier League meetings with them the previous year, defeating them 2-0 on opening day and then winning 2-1 at the City Ground courtesy of a brace from Alexander Isak.
